The Surf Industry Manufacturers Association’s (SIMA) held the Eighth Annual Liquid Nation Ball on Saturday night at the La Jolla, CA oceanfront home of Reef co-founder Fernando Aguerre. The Liquid Nation Ball serves as the annual fundraising event for SIMA’s Humanitarian Fund. Since inception the fund has raised more than $1.45 million for 13 different surf-related charities. The surfing community came out to help the SIMA Humanitarian Fund Board of Directors award Shaney Jo Darden, CEO of The Keep a Breast foundation (KAB) as 2011 recipient of Humanitarian of the Year. Darden is most famously known for her “I Love Boobies” campaign. The non-profit is designed to increase awareness in young people through fundraising, art, and educational events. Instead of hors d'oeuvres being passed the caterers passed pizza, the moment you walked through the door you knew this was no ordinary fundraiser, rather a party filled with passionate people celebrating life.
