ANDY DAVIS VISITS THE FURY SURF SHACK WITH BILLABONG
World leader in the surf industry, Billabong is bringing the California artist Andy Davis to Key West to kick off his East Coast Art Tour which travels up to Virginia Beach. Letty Nowak and Marius Venter's Fury Surf Shack has been chosen to host the event on March 30th from 6 - 9 pm at their 129 Duval Street location.
"This is pretty exciting for me," says Nowak. "I know Andy Davis through my Surf Shacks, but more through the California art scene. Andy has been to my La Jolla art studio and has helped guide me in breaking into the West Coast art market. He is inspirational to be around and his art work totally reflects his confident, simple, and straight forward nature."
Andy Davis was born in California and grew up between San Diego and Orange Counties. Art became a part of his life at a young age. After hours of play, he would recreate his experiences of the day by drawing them with crayons. After high-school he was accepted to art school and attempted to play by the rules, however, the school structure didn't fit Andy's free spirit.
Soon after leaving school, he took his college savings and started his first clothing company named after his newfound independence: “Free.” His success was swift, the brand quickly pulled on talent such as Brad Gerlach and Donavan Frankenreiter. “Free Clothing” closed its doors in 1996 but served as a launching pad for Andy’s career as an artist which has been one that has taken him all over the world.
Now Davis is designing and making art for Billabong. His line is ever expanding and features his drawings and paintings across boardshorts, hats, and tops. "I have had the line in the stores since the Holidays and styles sell out within weeks," Nowak adds. "It is going to be great that now customers will be able to put a face to the distinctive art they are buying."
During the night of the event, Andy will be making custom trucker hats for anyone who purchases one of his item and signing posters. Chris Higgins and friends will be playing music and the Cuban Coffee Queen will be suppling the food. "Davis has never been to Key West so we wanted to give him a taste of local culture so he will be introduced to some Cuban cuisine," says Venter. Everyone is welcome to this one night event. Come enjoy the art, music, food, and surf culture at the Fury Surf Shack 129 Duval Street. Please call (305) 731-9333 for more information.
